BDC Spring Symposium — May 2-3, 2017 — Des Moines, Iowa

The BDC Spring Symposium will be held this year at the Embassy Suites in downtown Des Moines, Iowa on May 2-3, 2017, with travel on Monday, May 1st. This symposium also marks the 10th anniversary of the formation of BDC. Please mark your calendars and follow the information below to register and make your hotel reservations.

The focus of this symposium will be commercial progress and Forest Industry Strategies. There will be two tours offered; the DuPont Commercial Cellulosic Biorefinery in nearby Nevada, IA and an optional Monday afternoon tour of the Iowa State BioCentury Research Farm.

The DuPont Cellulosic Commercial Biorefinery is one of the first commercial-scale cellulosic biorefineries in the world and is the world’s largest cellulosic ethanol facility. The plant is designed to convert corn stover (including corn cobs, leaves, and stalks) to 30 million gallons per year of fuel grade ethanol. The project has depended on collaboration with more than 500 local farmers, in an area within 30 miles of the plant, to gather, store, and deliver 375,000 dry tons of corn stover annually.

The Embassy Suites is a free shuttle ride from the Des Moines International Airport (DSM) and is located in the heart of historic downtown Des Moines.

Tour Details:  On Monday, May 1st, we are offering an optional tour of Iowa State University’s BioCentury Research Farm in Ames, Iowa. The Iowa State University BioCentury Research Farm is the first-in-the-nation integrated research and demonstration facility dedicated to biomass production and processing. This facility presents a unique opportunity for industry collaboration. Part of the tour will be a presentation by the University of Iowa staff and an industrial partner, Easy Energy. A bus will leave the hotel at 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon and will return to the hotel by 5:30 pm. When registering, you will have the opportunity to specify whether you plan to attend this tour.

Following a day of presentations on Tuesday, we will be touring DuPont Industrial Biosciences in Nevada, Iowa on Wednesday morning, May 3rd. The cellulosic ethanol facility in Nevada, Iowa, with its partner Tate & Lyle, is the leading producer of Bio-PDO®, a petroleum-free propanediol. The DuPont facility is a 30 minute bus ride from the hotel and from the Des Moines Airport. All participants will arrive at the airport by noon following the tour.   READ MORE
