Trade Agreement Changes Are Destroying Ag Market Opportunities

by Bruce Rohwer (Paullina/Des Moines Register)  To accommodate the bounty Iowa’s farmland produces, we farmers need every market and marketing opportunity that exists. Domestically, our No. 1 demand is our livestock, followed by our biofuel production. Domestic markets are not capable of consuming everything we can produce. Therefore, we are dependent on international exports to augment demand for our production.

Political rhetoric from both sides during the last election cycle would lead one to believe nothing good has come from international trade agreements. That simply is not the case. International free trade agreements have increased U.S. agriculture market share whenever they have been implemented. READ MORE
