Brazilian Demand Gives U.S. Ethanol Producers a Big Boost

The Washington, D.C.-based Renewable Fuels Association reported that 1.1 billion gallons of ethanol — worth about $2.5 billion — were exported to other nations, three times more than was exported in 2010.
More than one third of U.S. ethanol exports — about 400 million gallons — went to Brazil, the South American country that has relied heavily on ethanol-based fuels since the 1970s.
… Illinois was the third-largest ethanol-producing state in the nation in 2011 with production of more than 1.2 billion gallons, according to the Renewable Fuels Association. Here are the top 10:

* Illinois: 1.231 billion
* Minnesota: $1.129 billion
* South Dakota: 1.016 billion
