Submitted by on January 15, 2010 – 12:58 pmNo Comment

April 16-18 in Long Beach California, this weekend of Indy Car, American Le Mans Series and Toyota Celebrity/Pro racing strives to advance “green racing.”  Some announced highlights:

- The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy and SAE International to incorporate “green racing” …the first motorsports group to meet the criteria for green racing being developed by these three groups.   Featuring exotic prototypes and production-based sports cars competing in 4 categories, all cars in the series compete on alternative fuels.

- Corvette Racing will be powered by cellulosic E85 Ethanol (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline),  a high-octane, renewable alternative fuel made from waste wood and switchgrass, in the 2010 American Le Mans Series (ALMS), part of the series’ “green racing” initiative.  The series will be a highlight on Saturday at the 36th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 16-18.  Corvette Racing won eight consecutive GT1 manufacturers and team championships from 2001-08 and moved to the highly competitive GT2 class in 2009.

 - Solar panels power the Long Beach Convention Center, location of the Grand Prix weekend’s Lifestyle and Alternative Energy Expo, generating more than 725 kilowatts of power each day from solar panels on its roof….more than 25% of the building’s daily energy requirements.

- SA Recycling, a world leader in the metal recycling and processing industry, will be a first-time Official Sponsor of the 36th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 16-18.

A full service ferrous and non-ferrous metal recycler and processor, SA Recycling helps individuals and corporations realize true economic value from the scrap metal recycling process. SA Recycling has over 40 recycling locations throughout the southwestern United States, including the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.  READ MORE
