More Access to Advanced Biofuels Becoming an Issue of National Security
(MultiService.com) Advanced biofuels are gaining popularity throughout the United States thanks to their financial and environmental benefits. Domestic biofuels can especially benefit the Department of Defense, which uses a substantial amount of fuel each year. The Advanced Biofuels Association recently introduced a series of infographics that showcased how the adoption of biofuels can improve national security.
“This is about Washington making smarter investments that don’t sacrifice one energy sector for another and delivering the best results for tax-payer dollars spent while ultimately strengthening America’s national security,” said Michael McAdams, president of the ABFA.
Biofuel creates jobs
According to the infographics, biofuels have created 500,000 new jobs in the U.S., while also injecting roughly $53 billion into the nation’s economy. By practicing fuel procurement through the use of biofuel, the DOD can save millions to focus on other issues associated with national security.
“It’s hard to argue with the facts of today’s success of America’s domestic advanced biofuels industry as we’re moving from the beaker to the barrel in record time,” said McAdams.
It powers fighter planes
The DOD has been able to experience the positive effects of using biofuels. According to the infographic, the cost of advanced biofuels has dropped by 80 percent, giving the DOD the opportunity to power its F-16 and other fighter aircraft at lower prices.
“Our real world commercial success has been significantly helped by the continued partnership and commitment with the federal government and through policies like the Renewable Fuels Standard, the RFS,” said McAdams.
It makes the environment a better place
By using advanced biofuels, the DOD can support a cleaner environment, while also using a fuel source that is created from completely renewable resources, which not only cuts down oil consumption, but also brings down the cost of fuel. READ MORE and MORE (Biofuels Digest)
