Indiana Biodiesel Operation Could Lose USDA Incentives
by Andy Eubank (Hoosier Ag Today) USDA Rural Development has a proposed rule on the table that would exclude the Louis Dreyfus biodiesel plant from USDA Advanced Biofuel Payment Program eligibility because of its foreign ownership. Many in Indiana, including farmers, employees and residents near the Claypool facility are concerned about an unlevel playing field.
Biofuels Director at the Indiana corn and soybean checkoffs, Mark Walters, says if the rule passes it could also impact the future economies of rural communities. “It takes away the incentive for additional development in Indiana or other rural areas in the U.S. of these advanced biofuels plants if they happen to be owned by foreign entities, even though they employ large numbers of people and have very positive impacts on the economies of the areas where they are.” READ MORE Proposed Rule Hoosier Horsepower Radio Program
