Ensus Signs with Shell, Sends First Tanker
by Luke Geiver (Ethanol Producer Magazine) The first tanker of ethanol has left Ensus, Europe’s largest wheat-based ethanol facility. Headed for the Netherlands, the cargo, which has been purchased by Shell as part of a long term deal, is a “win, win, win for the environment, U.K. jobs and the economy at large,” said Alwyn Hughes, Ensus CEO.
At a capacity of 106 MMgy of ethanol, the Teeside plant which began production in January, will reportedly remove the equivalent of 300,000 cars off the road. Through a carbon capturing effort designed for use in the food and beverage industries, the plant hopes to reduce its carbon footprint. “We are taking in animal feed wheat, of which the UK has a large surplus, and refining it into bioethanol and high protein animal feed,” said Hughes. “At the same time, we are capturing all the carbon dioxide we produce for use in the food and beverage industries.” READ MORE and MORE and MORE
