by Mark Jacobs (Meridian Institute). He represented the Council on Sustainable Biomass Production (CSBP).

CSBP is developing the standards to indicate sustainability issues through principles, criteria, and indicators. These address the climate change, biological diversity and productivity, water quality and quantity, soil quality, socio- economic well-being, and integrated resource management planning.

The membership is open for farmers, producers, NGO’s, oil companies, federal agencies, academics, and it provides a range of invested perspectives.

In his talk, Mr. Jacobs indicated that CSBP:

·         seeks to ensure the cellulosic biomass production, the sustainable second generation of biofuels, through the sustainable manner, balancing economic, environmental, and social goals

·         supports biomass producers entering the market through education and training programs

Some of the key challenges for sustainable cellulosic biomass productions mentioned in this talk are:

·         Farmer Interest in Sustainability for New Industry

·         Land Conversion for Biofuels

·         Feedstock vs. Rafinery Sustainability

·         GHG Emission Measurement   READ MORE
