…The “Canadian Blueprint” is a strategy that will enable us to take full advantage of all the opportunities biotechnology has to offer, provided all stakeholders do what is required of them.
This document is a call to action. The Canadian Blueprint is vitally important because, the fact is, biotechnology is critical to Canada’s future prosperity and economic security.

… A bio-based economy relies on sustainable sources of renewable goods, thereby protecting the environment. At the same time, the bio-based economy seeks to create products with a reduced carbon footprint, further enhancing the environment. The bio-based economy is made possible by the continuing surge in scientific knowledge and technical abilities that can be used to harness biological processes for practical uses both in Canada’s traditional industries, and in exciting new areas. Dr. Ralph Hardy, an international expert in the field of agricultural biotechnology, postulates that the bio-based economy can — and should — be to the 21st century what the fossil-based economy was to the 20th century.
