ASABE to Revise Biomass Terminology and Definition Standard

(American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated a project to revise its standard on biomass terminology and definitions to include additional terms and definitions.

ANSI/ASABE S593, Terminology and Definitions for Biomass Production, Harvesting and Collection, Storage, Processing, Conversion and Utilization was originally developed five years ago to provide uniform terminology and definitions in the general area of biomass production and utilization.

Positive feedback from the standard users, along with intensified interest in and government mandates regarding the production of bioenergy, biopower and bioproducts from biomass, has resulted in the need to revise the standard to incorporate the additions.

ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards developing organization for food, agricultural, and biological systems, with more than 225 standards currently in publication.

Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.  READ MORE
