Algenol Biofuels: Harnessing the Sun to Fuel the World
(Algenol Biofuels) In this presentation, Algenol Biofuels provides a description of it’s developing Direct To Ethanol TM technology, taking algae, sunlight, salt water and CO2 to make ethanol and other bio-based products. Illustrations and diagrams generally explain the process of algae-created sugars fermented by enzymes in the algae cells to produce ethanol that separates itself from the cells by evaporation.
Of additional interest, Algenol addresses how its process addresses a number of challenges raised about biofuels: water useage, land use, consumption of energy in the production process, etc. It also lists the challenges that they continue to research, such as algae strain development, photobioreactor design and manufacture, gas management of the PBR headspace, developing a pilot plant, working on the life cycle analysis and developing biochemicals and other products in addition to biofuels. Also, policy initiatives are listed. READ MORE
